Q: Can a small company afford your services?
A: Yes. Atkinson Graphics is not a large agency, so there are no large agency fees. As an independent designer my prices are lower than an agency with a design team. However, the standard of design that I provide remains exceptional. [Top]
Q: Does Atkinson Graphics provide printing services?
A: Yes. I rely on a few select printing companies that provide professional quality results. They also offer competitive prices which I pass on to you. [Top]
Q: What if I need website updates?
A: Rather than charge a monthly or yearly flat fee, I quote on requests for website updates on an ‘as needed basis’. [Top]
Q: Do you create websites that I can update myself?
A: Yes. For websites with a content management system (CMS) I use WordPress. I customize their templates with graphic elements that I design specifically to your brand and for your business. The CMS allows you to change content such as, the information and photos. [Top]
Q: What is a Content Management System?
A: A CMS allows you to make updates to the content within your website or blog. You can edit information, replace photos, and alter other content provided that you have learned the technology involved in doing this yourself. [Top]
Q: Should my website have a Content Management System?
A: A CMS website is an option if frequent changes are necessary and if you want to take the time to learn how to edit and add updates yourself. If you are short on time, or only update your website content once a year, a CMS website might not be for you. [Top]
Q: Do I still need printed marketing materials if I have a website?
A: Print materials are an excellent way of reaching your target audience, giving them general information, and then directing them to your website for more details. At networking events, print pieces make great ‘leave-behinds’ . [Top]
Q: Do I receive electronic files of my design projects?
A: Most of the design files that I create remain the property of Atkinson Graphics, unless a written agreement has been made prior to starting work on the project. That said, I often provide print ads as pdfs for clients so that they can forward them to various publications. [Top]
Q: What electronic file formats will I receive with my design projects?
A: Unless a written agreement has been made prior to starting work on the project, all design files remain the property of Atkinson Graphics. However, some marketing projects, such as a series of print ads, are used in many different publications. For your convenience I provide a CD with the ads in pdf format. [Top]
Q: I already have a website, but it is not effective in attracting my ideal customers. How can you help me?
A: When a website stops working for you, it might be an indication that it is due for a major 'refresh' – both in design and function. If your site is more than 3 or 4 years old it will need to be developed for use on mobile devices such as phones and tablets. I provide mobile-friendly websites and can recommend ways of driving traffic to your site through the use of print materials and other means. [Top]
Q: What does “Branding” mean?
A: This popular term refers to a visual representation of your business 'identity'. Your brand distinguishes you from your competitors and should be recognizable to your market at a glance. Your company brand includes design elements such as your logo, corporate colours, and a specific font or typestyle. When these elements are used consistently throughout all of your marketing and correspondence they become recognizable as your brand. [Top]
Q: What are your design fees?
A: Generally I base my prices on a combination of an hourly fee and artistic talent/skill. Design fees vary depending on the nature and scope of the proposed work. In the end, I provide a quote or proposal with a price for the entire project and indicate exactly what that price includes. [Top]
Q: How does payment for a project work?
Once you receive an invoice from me you have up to 30 days to make your payment for the whole amount owing. However, on more extensive projects, such as marketing campaigns and websites, I offer the option of paying in 2 or 3 instalments. Payment by a cheque mailed to my address is preferred. [Top]
Q: Are there any extra or hidden charges?
A: No. I go to great lengths to avoid this by spelling out all of the details of a project in my proposals and quotations. I indicate exactly what services are included in the price, such as, what I will need from you, payment instructions, and when the job will be completed. [Top]
Q: Who owns the stock photos purchased for use in my marketing projects?
A: Purchased stock photos for use in design projects for your business are owned by Atkinson Graphics. This protects both you and I against copyright issues. However, if the copyright on the photos allows them to be reused in other marketing venues, I am happy to forward them as jpeg files. [Top]
